** Participate in an online survey! ** en EspañolOn October 31, 2006, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), in cooperation with Arts Midwest, announced that seventy-two communities throughout the United States were selected to participate in The Big Read. The County of Los Angeles Public Library was among those to be awarded the grant with the event scheduled to take place in the Santa Clarita Valley. Spearheading the event will be Valencia Library, Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library, and the Newhall Library.
The Big Read is a nation-wide reading initiative designed not only to revive literary reading and restore reading to the center of American culture but to encourage reading for pleasure and bring communities together to read and discuss one book. The classic which will be highlighted for The Big Read initiative in the Santa Clarita Valley is Ray Bradbury’s, Fahrenheit 451, whose theme of censorship is as relevant today as it was when the book was published in 1953.
This event is part of The Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest. |
