Essay Contest - February 5 - March 30

The plot of Fahrenheit 451 centers around a society where citizens no longer read and where books are banned and burned.  Santa Clarita Valley students in junior high school, high school, and local colleges will have the opportunity to enter an essay contest, addressing the question:

“If you could save ONLY ONE book from extinction, which book would you select and why?”

Essay Contest Forms can be picked up at:
Valencia Library, Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library, or Newhall Library.

Find The Big Read - Santa Clarita Valley Book - February 5 - May 1

Copies of Fahrenheit 451 will be placed in different locations throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.  If someone finds the book, there will be instructions inside the book with information on how to be entered into a drawing for a prize.

I Was Caught Reading Fahrenheit 451 - - February 5 - May 1

If a member of the Friends of the Libraries of the Santa Clarita Valley or The Big Read - Santa Clarita Valley Committee spots someone in the Santa Clarita Valley with a copy of Fahrenheit 451 in hand or reading the book, they will be given a form to be entered into a drawing for a prize.

This event is part of The Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest.
